Biography

Always in need of a soap box, I have finally made it to the blogosphere. Filled with liberal, feminist, and democratic views, I am never without an opinion. This blog is just that — my opinion on everything from national politics to raising children.

The goal of this blog is to open your thoughts and eyes to how other people see a situation or event. I welcome all comments and can't wait to hear about your personal experience. Nothing I write is a personal attack on anyone — including my family. You may not like what I say or how I see something, especially if you are a conservative — thank you 1st Amendment. This is also meant to be funny (at times), so lighten up! I will not respond to every comment and will try my hardest to get the facts straight and to always tell the truth. If, however, something is factually wrong, please let me know so that I can correct that.

I started my career in journalism at the Chicago Sun-Times as a freelance photographer. I eventually worked my way up the ranks to Assistant Photo Editor before leaving for the Boston Herald. At the Boston Herald, I covered the 9/11 attacks in New York City and soon realized that I had seen enough and needed to make a career change.

Earning a Master's Certificate in Women in Politics and Public Policy from UMass-Boston, I began my second career — this time in politics. I worked for a state senator as a policy analyst. During my tenure with the Senator, I was able to pass more than 20 bills in many areas, ranging from children, persons with disabilities, adoption and foster care. My most complicated piece was working on rewriting the state laws around child abuse, neglect and foster care. I am proud to say it was signed into law by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick in 2008.

I am also a feminist-activist. I served as the Co-President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) from 2005-2007. I currently serve as a National NOW Board member representing the Northeast Region. I helped to create an educational tool for high school students to learn about women and feminism and believe education is the best and only way to move the movement forward.

I am currently working on starting my own consulting business with three other amazing women in Massachusetts and continuing to move the women's movement forward to ensure that the lives of my children are equal.

At the same time as holding these positions, I am also a mother of two children. My daughter, Carolyn (age 6), has just finished kindergarten and is on her way to the teen years. My son, Robert "Bobby" is 2 months old and is reminding me just how amazing and wide-eyed children are. I am married to Eric, a communications expert and speechwriter.
